Microfabrication and Exploratory Nanotechnology
Ariadna Fernández has PhD obtained at the Institut Català de Nanotecnología (ICN2) (2016). She also holds Physics Degree from Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (2012) and a MSc degree from the Universitat de Barcelona (2013).
Her PhD has been aimed at upgrading existing injection moulding production technology, through the development of a complete nanoimprint lithography solution for structuring the free-form surfaces of injection moulding tools and tool insert.
Throughout her thesis period she has focused on biomimetic structures for enhanced self-cleaning application, for which she has developed a combination of different Nanoimprint Lithography (NIL) techniques. She has developed a new Reverse NIL fabrication approach, allowing the imprint over different curved and pre-patterned surfaces. With this fabrication method, she developed different 3D hierarchical structures with excellent self-cleaning properties. I also discovered the co-existence of different wetting behaviours on a 3D structured surface.
