Life Sciences

The Department of Life Science aims to improve the citizen’s wellbeing and health by means the generation of knowledge and the development of applications of the nanotechnologies in the fields of food, health and environment.

The research is market oriented and focused on the diagnostic and treatment of ageing-related diseases as well as the control and monitorization of quality and safety of water and foods. The design and characterization of bio-interfaces and the development of advanced nano-bio engineered solutions for biomedical devices, food packaging and processing are also objectives of the Life Sciences Department.

To achieve these objectives, sensors, lab-on-a-chip solutions and tailored nanostructures and materials are developed in the department.
