Andrés David Pardo
PhD Student
Andrés Pardo joined the Nanofabrication, Optoelectronics, Energy and Applications (NOA) group as a research engineer in October 2023. His main activity at INL is related to developing new architectures for thin film solar cells and optoelectronics devices, including flexible devices and incorporating wavelength conversion strategies.
Andrés earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Atlantic University, Barranquilla, Colombia, and a master's degree in Applied Physics from Londrina State University in Brazil in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Since 2019, he has been a doctoral candidate in Materials Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), and currently, he is finishing his PhD thesis. In 2016, Andrés participated in a summer research program in the Department of Physics at the University of Notre Dame (USA), where he was involved in characterising diluted magnetic semiconductors. Later, in 2019, he carried out a research internship in the same institution, working with numerical simulations of ion transport processes of a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. From April to September 2023, Andrés was also a visiting researcher at INL developing perovskite solar cells. Andrés has experience with synthesising and characterising 3rd generation photovoltaic devices (organic and perovskite solar cells), and he has also been involved with simulations of different solar cell structures using SCAPS-1D software.
