Camilo Guzmán aims to provide technical and hands-on expertise on advanced light
microscopy systems and techniques to INL researchers and external entities. Among his duties, he manages the day-to-day operation of the Advanced Microscopy and Bioimaging facility, ensuring it maintains state-of-the-art capabilities and performs at the frontiers of the field.
Camilo joined INL late 2018 after working as manager of the Finnish Advanced Light Microscopy Node of the European research infrastructure Euro-BioImaging in Turku, Finland. He obtained his PhD in biophysics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland where he developed tools to study the
mechanical properties of the cell. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Turku Centre of Biotechnology in Turku, Finland, where his research was focusing on cell mechanics and in the application of multiple fluorescence microscopy techniques
(including super-resolution microscopy and fluorescence dynamics methods), to understand how physical forces and changes in the mechanical properties of the cell environment affect development, cell differentiation, physiology, and disease.
