Margarida Santos is Health, Environment and Safety Officer (HESO) at INL, and she is responsible for formulating and implementing HE&S programmes, policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and INL statutory regulations. She works in the HES Unit regarding the development and management of the Occupational Health and Safety Programme by implementing HE&S programmes, procedures and systems as well as ensuring that these are implemented correctly by conducting and reviewing risk assessments and carrying out inspections and audits. She supports the INL Laboratory Management Staff in developing and implementing appropriate hygiene policies and procedures for Biosafety, Chemical, Radiation Safety and Hazardous Waste Management. She also ensures the update of all relevant HE&S documentation, records and statistics.

Margarida Santos acquired significant experience in the implementation and management of OHSAS 18001:2007 (Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) during her years of experience as a Health, Environment and Safety Officer (HESO) in some companies, having performed monitoring functions in Safety Management System, as well as its implementation in a company, where the OHSAS 18001:2007 certification was obtained. Margarida Santos has a degree in “Geology – Resources and Planning”, by “Instituto de Ciências da Terra” of “Universidade do Minho”.
