Sofia Azevedo
Research Fellow
Water Quality
Sofia joined INL in March 2021 as a research fellow. She is part of the Water Quality Research Group under Begoña Espiña’s supervision. She works in the SbDToolBox project developing new tools and methods to evaluate the release, fate and toxicity of nanomaterials to aquatic organisms, using standardizes OECD guidelines as reference.
Sofia holds a Biology degree (2013) and a master in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (2015) both from the University of Aveiro (Portugal). During her time at the University of Aveiro, she started working in ecotoxicology and her main goal was to access the toxicity of nanomaterials to aquatic organisms. From 2016 to 2018, she worked in an Agricultural R&D CRO in Valencia (Spain), testing the toxicity of phytosanitary products to terrestrial and aquatic organisms under GLP. Then for two years, she worked at CBMA (University of Minho, Braga) assessing the environmental impact of newly developed products.
