Clivia Sotomayor

Prof. Dr Sotomayor Torres is a world-leading scientist in nanophononics, nanophotonics, nanoelectronics, nanometrology and nanofabrication. She obtained her PhD in Physics (Manchester Univ., UK 1984). She held tenured appointments at St. Andrews and Glasgow Universities and became a C4 professor at Wuppertal Univ. (Germany, 1996). During 2004-8, she was a research professor at the University. College Cork, Tyndall National Institute (Ireland). Clivia received awards from the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Nuffield Foundation and the Amelia Earhart Fellowship from ZONTA International (USA). In 2025, she received the Bloch Prize for her outstanding contribution to the field of phononics, the 30-year Nanoimprint Pioneer Award and the Klemens Award for her contributions to the physics of phonon scattering in semiconductor nanostructures. She is the holder of an ERC AdG researching phonons in topological matter. She is the author of over 600 scientific works, has an h-index of 69 (GS) and over 18,500 citations (Google Scholar). She was a guest professor at the P. Sabatier Univ. Toulouse, at The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden and, during the Winter Semester 2022-23, Mittlesten-Scheid guest professor at the University of Wuppertal, in Germany. She was elected to the Academia Europaea in 2020. In 2023, she was appointed Director General of the International Iberian Nanotechnology.
