Technology Transfer Officer
Hélder Lopes currently serves as Head of the Technology Transfer Office at INL, leading activities related to intellectual property management, research commercialisation, and technology transfer. This unit fosters contract research and R&D collaborations with industry, supports the creation of spin-out companies, and drives initiatives that translate scientific research into real-world impact. In this role, he is also responsible for operationalising INL’s Innovation Policy.
With more than 15 years of experience across academia, industry, and public policy, Hélder has built his career at the intersection of research and innovation, helping to strengthen the connection between scientific excellence and market solutions.
He holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho and completed his PhD in Bioengineering through the MIT Portugal Program, including a visiting research period at EMBL Heidelberg. Trained as a scientist, Hélder is experienced in collaborating with academic institutions, industry, public sector organisations, and civic stakeholders to connect scientific research with value creation and drive meaningful impact.
