Leila Matavele
Application & Systems Integration Engineer
Leila joined the Medical Devices group at INL as a Research Engineer in 2024 to work on the WINGS Project – a Wireless Neural Guidance Device for spinal cord injury repair. In this role, she is responsible for the design and development of electronics and embedded software, as well as the miniaturization of the device to meet the demands of advanced medical applications.
She holds a BEng in Electromechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton and an MSc in Robotics from the University of Bristol. Throughout her career, Leila has worked across electronics, software, robotics and automation, transforming concepts into functional products. Notably, she contributed to the development of ventilators during COVID-19 and a device for early seizure detection in epilepsy patients, reinforcing her focus on applying embedded systems to innovative medical technologies.
