Postdoctoral Researcher

Pastrana Research Group

Luis Martins is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Pastrana Research Group. His research interests include the development of in vitro platforms that are representative of disease and enable the testing of new drugs and therapies. He is also experienced in the study and identification of disease biomarkers and their pre-clinical validation.

Luis holds a degree in Biology (2007) from the University of Coimbra (Portugal), a Master’s degree in Biotechnology Engineering (2009), and a PhD in Endocrinology (2015), both from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). He conducted postdoctoral research in the UK (2015–2019) at Imperial College London and the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences, where he worked on the identification of adipose tissue thermogenic mechanisms and anti-obesity therapeutic targets. Later (2019–2025), at the University of Minho (Portugal), Luis worked in tissue engineering, focusing on the development and characterisation of 3D in vitro models of rare skin diseases and obese adipose tissue.
