Manuel Pereira
Research Assistant

Manuel Pereira is a research assistant in the Kolen’ko Research Group at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), working on the SMARTPACK project. His main responsibilities include the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles, preparation of magnetic polymer composites, formulation of printable magnetic inks, characterization of the materials, and the writing of scientific reports.
He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal), with a specialization in Biomaterials, Rehabilitation, and Biomechanics. His master’s dissertation on “Shelf-life Optimization of Antibody-Coated Sensor Surfaces for PoC Applications” was carried out at INL, where he developed a protective dry coating to preserve the functionality of biointerfaces for long-term storage. During this project, he obtained practical experience in surface functionalization techniques, biomarker detection strategies, and nanoparticle functionalization.
Manuel has a strong interest in translational research and applied R&D projects, especially health-related.
