Tahir Muhmood has expertise in fabricating Nano-catalysts / Nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications and their atomic-level analysis. Currently, he is working on the Moving2Neutrality project (challenges of energy transition in transport by producing sustainable fuels towards carbon neutrality). He published research articles in well-reputed journals (JCR/SCI ranked) as the first and corresponding author, including Applied Catalysis B: Environment and Energy, ACS Catalysis, Chemical Engineering Journal, Small, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Advanced Powder Technology, and others.

He received six "Academic Research Publication Rewards" and two "Academic Success Awards". He wins the “Elite Government Award” from CS-Beijing Council. One of his research articles got the “VIP (Very Important Paper)” title from WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.KGaA, Weinheim, for publishing the innovative research. Currently, he is the editor of various journals. He also fulfills the reviewer duties for journals, including CEJ, Nature Communication, JECE, NANO, Scientific Reports, Materials Today, etc.
