Nanofabrication, Optoelectronics and Energy Applications

Vítor Lopes is a Research Fellow working on the Nanofabrication, Optoelectronics, and Energy Applications (NOA) group at INL. His research and work activities are focused on the project “Batteries as the key elements in Virtual Power Plants”, which consists of establishing a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) that includes several distributed renewable energy assets together with energy storage systems.

In 2022, Vítor finished the Doctoral Program of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minho, and his PhD thesis was focused on the “Development of a new technique for manufacturing biodegradable magnesium stents”. He has a background in fabrication technologies and metal processing. Other application areas include mechanical projects and product development for industrial applications.

His current research focuses also on solar cell development and batteries.

Vítor also holds a guest Assistant Professorship at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minho.
