The role of the Chief Intellectual Property Officer (CIPO) is to strategize and operate at the intersection of intellectual property, research & development and business development, towards the creation of an IP centric organization at all levels.

The CIPO is responsible for IP strategies, IP management and exploitation of INL’s intellectual assets. As a Qualified European Patent Attorney, Dr Håkanson also supports research teams and start-ups in the capture and protection of inventive concepts.

Key areas of expertise include IP strategy, patent prosecution, licensing, technology/knowledge transfer, start-up development, mainly within key enabling technologies (KETs), and business development.

Prior to joining the INL, Dr Håkanson worked as a business unit manager and patent attorney at a private IP consultancy firm in Sweden. He holds a PhD in Solid State Physics from Lund University, Sweden and has more than 15 years of international research experience in nanotechnology in the disciplines of material science, semiconductor physics, and optics.
