INL based startup Suevia Foods wins innovation award

February 5, 2021

ALBA Project, from the INL spin-out startup Suevia Foods, was the winner of the “Prémio Inovação” 7th Edition, in the “Food, Nutrition and Health” Category, promoted by Crédito Agrícola, a Portuguese organization from the banking sector.

The €5,000.00 Euros award was given to the team of INL researchers Lorenzo Pastrana, Miguel Ângelo Cerqueira, and Pablo Fuciños, for developing an innovative product that effectively replaces titanium dioxide, a chemical component increasingly banned in several countries, which is currently present in over 3500 food and beverage items. Its replacement is one of the major short-term challenges faced by the global food industry. ALBA presents a viable, safe, and healthy alternative based on natural and sustainable sources, by addressing a real and urgent market need.

According to Miguel Ângelo Cerqueira, this award is very important in helping to give visibility to our solution that can be ready to go to the market already in 2021”.
