Under the Scale Travels Residencies ‘n.d’edit._128_33_Blue_Dot_’ was born. This is an audiovisual installation by the Portuguese artist Ana Guedes. In this artistic residency at INL – Iberian International Nanotechnology Laboratory, Ana explored the cultural coordinates and references to a common collective imagination that mirrors the multiple fronts of a moment of crisis on a planetary scale.

She accompanied the nanomanufacturing processes of new accelerometers with aerospace applications in the collection of gravitational waves data, monitoring models of terrestrial water bodies, and flood and drought patterns resulting from the climate crisis, a speculative exercise takes place on the human fascination in exploration. and expansion of knowledge about the cosmos, the instruments that somehow guided us here and transport us to a notion of the future.

Ana Guedes’ practice combines sound, performance and installation, linking temporalities and historical and autobiographical narratives. Graduated in sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, the multidisciplinary artist born in Braga and residing in The Hague, the Netherlands, holds a Master’s in Intermediate Arts from the University of Évora and in Artistic Research from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

She was a fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation between 2015 and 2016 and an artist selected for the EDP Novos Artistas 2017 award, having been awarded an Honorable Mention for the work presented. Between 2017 and 2018 she participated in the Jan Van Eyck Academie artist residency in Maastricht. In 2018, she was awarded the Piedra de Sal prize for the Bienal de Cuenca. Her works, performances and installations have been shown in galleries and museums in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Latvia and the Netherlands.
