Catarina Moura
Officer

With a background in biomedical engineering and nearly a decade of international research experience, Catarina Moura is passionate about making science accessible to all. As Science Communication Officer at INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, she develops initiatives that connect researchers with diverse audiences, from creative collaborations to scientific events and public outreach.
Catarina holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Southampton, UK, where she explored innovative imaging techniques for bone and cartilage repair. She has always been drawn to unexpected intersections – blending science with art, sparking curiosity in unconventional spaces, and fostering collaborations that bring research closer to society.
Before joining INL, Catarina worked at the Doctoral College in the UK, organising scientific initiatives for both researchers and non-specialist audiences. She was also part of an itinerant platform designed to help researchers share their work with the public, coordinated Pint of Science events in the UK, and participated in renowned international science festivals such as the Cheltenham Science Festival and Glastonbury Festival.
She thrives on teamwork and creating meaningful projects that bridge science and society. And when she’s not crafting new ideas, you’ll likely find her by the ocean—sailing, diving, or simply recharging in nature.
