Diogo Costa

Research Engineer

Nanostructured Solar Cells

Diogo Costa joined INL as a Research Engineer at the Nanostructured Solar Cells group. His work is focused on the development of advanced materials and solutions for energy storage, such as solid-state batteries, using physical vapor deposition (PVD) techniques.

Diogo Costa holds a degree in Biochemistry (2014) and a Master’s in Biophysics and Bionanosystems (2017) from the University of Minho. He currently is finishing his Ph.D. in Physics at the same university. He has integrated the functional thin films research group in the Physics Centre from the University of Minho (2014-2023) and has obtained knowledge in the thin films field. He has worked in the deposition of plasmonic, decorative, functional or antimicrobial thin films by reactive DC magnetron sputtering and advanced materials characterization techniques. In 2023, he joined CeNTI – Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials as a Researcher in Smart Materials, dedicated to the development of barrier coating for water vapor and oxygen, as well as solid-state batteries, using PVD technologies (DC and RF magnetron sputtering, and thermal evaporation).
