Diogo Costa

Research Engineer

Sadewasser Research Group

Diogo Costa joined INL as a Research Engineer at the Nanostructured Solar Cells group. His work is focused on the development of advanced materials and solutions for energy and storage, such as thin film solar cells and solid-state thin film batteries, using PVD technologies. He is also involved on the installation of the Solid-state Thin Film Batteries Pilot Line, a cluster of thin film deposition systems integrated on a continous glovebox.

Diogo Costa holds a  Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Minho. He has integrated the functional thin films research group in the Physics Centre from the University of Minho (2014-2023), working on thin film technology. He has worked in the deposition of plasmonic, decorative, functional or antimicrobial thin films by reactive DC magnetron sputtering and advanced materials characterization techniques. In 2023, he joined CeNTI – Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials as a Researcher in Smart Materials, dedicated to the development of barrier coating for water vapor and oxygen, as well as solid-state batteries, using PVD technologies (DC and RF magnetron sputtering, and thermal evaporation).
