João is a Junior Research Fellow in the Theory of Quantum Nanostructures group at INL since October 2022. His work is mainly focused on theoretical studies of low dimensional materials, such as carbon based nanographenes. While he strives to formally explain experimental results with theoretical models and give insight on the underlying physical mechanisms, he also enjoys doing research at a more fundamental level.

João holds a MSc degree in Physics from the University of Minho with a thesis focused on the theoretical description of excitons in 2D materials, such as hBN and TMDs. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
