José Maria Fernandes

Fellow

Medical Devices

José Fernandes is a Research Fellow working for the Medical Devices Group at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory(INL) in Braga, Portugal. The Medical Devices Group focuses on the development of technologies for the understanding and diagnosis of diseases. In particular, he contributes to the 3DSecret project (EIC Pathfinder Horizon Europe 2022). His assignments consist primarily of assembling microfluidic tools, spectroscopy (mainly SERS) and single-cell analysis using nano-sensors and optofluidic devices.

José Fernandes graduated from the NOVA School of Science and Technology in 2019, as part of the NOVA University of Lisbon, with an MSc in Micro and Nanotechnology Engineering. His thesis was carried out at the INL, operating as a guest student for the Medical Devices Group, under the title "Development of microfluidic tools for cancer single cell encapsulation and proliferation in microdroplets". Afterwards, he obtained a 1-year scholarship to work at the CENIMAT|I3N research group for the Microfluidics group, where he worked extensively in photolithography, micro and nanofabrication and microfluidics.
