Nélson Castro

Research Engineer

Integrated Micro and Nanotechnologies

Nelson Castro is a research engineer in the Integrated Micro and Nanotechnologies research group at INL, working in integration of existing magnetic and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). He completed his integrated master in electronics engineering at University of Minho, then worked in R&D of electronic instrumentation for polymer based printed sensors and smart materials, tailored for printing in the scope of flexible electronics. He got his Ph.D. in Project Engineering from the Basque Country University at Bilbao Engineering School, regarding the design, construction and validation of magnetic and stretching bioreactors as actuators of smart nano-tailored biomaterials for tissue engineering applications. He has solid background with magnetoelectric, piezoelectric, piezoresistive and capacitive sensors design, as well as with microprocessors, digital and analogue electronics instrumentation, printed circuit board design and assembly, data sampling and communication, graphical user interface and respective programming languages based on C, C++ and C#.
