Paula Lopes Campos
Research Engineer
Paula Lopes Campos joined the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory – INL, in April 2024, to be part of the multidisciplinary team of Espiña's research group to work on the development of biosensors for intrapartum monitoring, aiming at detection of lactate levels in amniotic fluids. Her research path has been particularly drawn to the unparalleled potential of electrochemical biosensors in health- and environmental applications, where innovations can revolutionize care settings, drive significant advancements and impact lives profoundly.
Paula received her PhD in chemistry from Durham University (2013, UK), where she worked on the development of alternative (bio)sensing systems capable of detecting and differentiating chiral drugs. Before joining INL, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at iNANO (Aarhus University, Denmark), Requimte/LAQV (ISEP, Portugal) and CMST (Imec Associated Lab at Ghent University, Belgium). While at iNANO, Paula was a visiting scientist at the NCNST (Beijing, China) to explore innovative tools for analysis of Amyloidosis pathway implicated in Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases.
