FODIAC project as a case study at the 5th Global Nanotechnology Congress and Expo

The 5th Global Nanotechnology Congress and Expo are taking place on the 3-5 December in Valencia, Spain. It is a symposium of keynote presentations, Oral talks, Poster presentations, hosting leading scientists from academia and industry worldwide, to discuss the latest developments in the field of Nanotechnology. Many interesting perspectives will be explored throughout the three-days and will be focused on how science and technology of materials from nano to macro level are changing rapidly, providing a scenario of new opportunities and challenges. On the first day, in the framework of the conference, a workshop was led by Lorenzo Pastrana on FODIAC project. The project was brought to the stage as a case study and example of nanotechnology developments in the field of Food. Specifically, Lorenzo will present how applied nanotechnology with complementary disciplines can be used to extract functional bioactive molecules to be integrated into a dietary solution to tackle diabetes and the associated impairment of the cognitive function among the elderly.

European Researchers Night 2018

European Researchers Night 2018

Last September, INL was in Porto, Portugal, at the European Researchers Night bringing science and innovation to a fun and inspiring event that brought together families, scientists, artists and more. The initiative is promoted every year by the European Commission and runs in more than 300 cities simultaneously all over Europe. INL co-organized the 2019 edition: ”Science Wars” at Palácio das Artes, in partnership with INOVA+ and Fundação da Juventude. For Boryana Yotova, representative of the Education, Culture and Audiovisual Executive Agency of the European Commission, this initiative is the “opening-up” of science to the new generations and “blending education and entertainment is the perfect match” to make it successful. For INL, the event was an outstanding opportunity to showcase the work developed every day at the Laboratory by a passionate and committed group of people. Next year, INL will bring European Researchers Night to life again in collaboration with Inova+, promising new activities and experiments for everyone to learn and have fun with science.

INL and ICVS join researchers for “ideas party”

INL and ICVS join researchers for “ideas party”

The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and the ICVS (Institute of Research in Life Sciences and Health) joined for a new edition of “Hackathon”, an unprecedented initiative that is part of a program created to open channels of communication between researchers from different areas and to generate innovative or even unexpected ideas for the benefit of society. The first edition of the “Hackathon” was held in 2017 and brought together experts from both institutions who randomly formed working groups to discuss ideas and proposals for a full day of joint work together. The group with the best project idea received funding of 20.000€, with a grant of 5.000€ to each of the remaining groups. The “2nd Hackathon” started on September 27th with a kick-off meeting. The main objective of INL and ICVS is to demonstrate how two distinct entities with diverse scientific agendas can make bridges between areas of knowledge that, from the outset, may appear to be difficult to reconcile. The results achieved so far not only prove the opposite but make evident the benefits of joint communication and collaboration between scientists in complementary and multidisciplinary fields. Demonstrating the high potential of this initiative, after the “1st Hackathon”, researchers […]
