CLIB students win entrepreneurship competition with INL support

CLIB students win entrepreneurship competition with INL support

A team of students from CLIB – Colégio Luso Internacional de Braga recently won the 11th National Competition, promoted by Junior Achievement Portugal, the Portuguese chapter of the oldest organization in the world promoting education for entrepreneurship. The five 10th graders – four girls and one boy -, mentored by INLer João Piteira, will represent Portugal in the European Competition, that will take place next 16th to 19th of July in Belgrade, Serbia, with the mini-company “Extinctus Enterprise”. This project was inspired by the response to the tragic forest fires that hit Portugal in 2017. The technology prototype, developed with INL support, is an underground Ignis Capsule containing a radio, a battery and a temperature sensor. In case of fire, it detects the heat and sends a signal to firefighters. Another CLIB team – also from the 10th grade – mentored by INLers Dmitri Petrovykh, Cláudia Sousa and Eurico Moreira, got the second place in the same competition with the SOS – Seniors On Surveillance project, for developing the concept of a high-tech Safelet bracelet equipped with alert buttons and sensors to promote independence, autonomy and safety for senior citizens. In addition to the technical mentoring, INLer Francisco Guimarães helped […]

The postgraduate students came from the University of Minho, Porto, Aveiro, Algarve (Portugal), Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Córdoba, Extremadura and Valladolid (Spain). Nanogateway brings science benefits to Iberian partners. This initiative was open to participants from four regions of Portugal and four regions of Spain, within the framework of the Nanogateway Pluri-Regional Project, promoted by INL and supported by European funds through the Interreg Cross-Border Cooperation Program. This project aims to develop collaborative research excellence and put scientific research at the service of companies and communities covered to support qualified employment and sustainable development. This project foresees, in 2018 and 2019, numerous training and mobility actions for academia and industry researchers, thus contributing to the advanced qualification of human capital within the territories. The sub-regions […]

Knowledge Open Day @ INL April 10th

On April 10th, The INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in partnership with IAPMEI will host a Knowledge Open Day @ INL. The globalisation of the economy is a dynamic process that demands from companies an ever more significant capacity to assert itself in the market for innovation, organisation, creativity and knowledge, thus differentiating itself from the competition. In this regarding, the resource and interaction with the Universities and Knowledge Centers, as partners and service providers that are valid and in line with the demands of the market, can prove to be a strategic imperative. In this event, we will discuss strategic ideas of cooperation between companies, institutions and universities to generate value and competitive strength in the market. The registration is free but mandatory.

Drug Discovery and Delivery Network for Oncology and Eye Therapeutics (3DNeoNet Seminar)

Friday 9th February, at the INL Auditorium This seminar is an event organized in the framework of the Annual Meeting of the project 3DNeoNet, led by the University College of Dublin (UCD), and in which INL is part of the Consortium. The overall goal of 3DNeoNet is the improvement of available treatments for cancer and ocular disease by enhancing drug discovery-development and delivery to targeted tissues, through advanced international co-operation between academic and non-academic partners. The interdisciplinary expertise provided by 18 partners in 7 countries encompasses among others: drug screens, ADME, toxicology, preclinical models, nanotechnology, biomaterials and clinical trials. There will be three internationally recognized speakers with outstanding contributions in the fields of drug delivery, cancer therapy, and polymer chemistry: Prof. María José Alonso (University of Santiago de Compostela, USC), Prof. Vitaliy Khutoryanskiy (University of Reading, UoR), and Bruno Sarmento (Institute for Investigation and Innovation in Health (i3S)/INEB). After their talks, there will be a Round Table, entitled: Challenges of the start-ups in the health/ pharma industry. Project NMP-REG Mid-Term Workshop held in Belgium

Project NMP-REG Mid-Term Workshop held in Belgium

The NMP-REG, a project funded under the Interreg Europe program, held a Mid-Term International Workshop last month in Leuven (Belgium), in collaboration with the ERRIN Network and with the participation of Watify (Boosting Technological Transformation). Based on the Regional Smart Specialisation (RIS3) Mid Term Reviews, the event focused on the debate of technology transfer of nano and new materials to industry, while bringing into conversation regional authorities and various stakeholders in the field of new and advanced materials. The workshop comprehended two different moments: a plenary session discussing European initiatives related to regional smart specialisation strategies; a session entitled “Consolidating NMP in regional Smart Specialisation” divided into two interactive working sessions. INL is one of the six members of the NMP-REG project that groups partners from 5 regions. The consortium aims to ensure that innovation actors cooperate to deliver research results to the manufacturing sector, with subsequent benefits for regional growth. The overall objective is, therefore, to improve regional policies for the delivery of innovation in NMP to manufacturing, focusing on policy actions that can support innovation delivery, using a coordinated effort from key players. NMP-REG works towards a medium/long term impact of creating a regional system that can support […]
