FIM4STROKE
A Fully Integrated Magnetoresistive Biochip Platform for Stroke Patient Stratification
In Ischemic stroke patients, the elevated levels of several biomarkers in blood have been shown to accurately predict a high risk of developing negative side effects associated with thrombolytic therapy (hemorrhagic transformation). Diagnostic/ prognostic devices addressing complex diseases need to look for multiple, rather than single, biomarkers to provide actionable information for stratification of patients and personalized medicine. Therefore, this project aims to develop a portable and fully integrated detection system, i.e, a microfluidic unit for sample preparation/purification, integrated to a magnetoresistive biochip platform for stroke patient stratification. A rapid and an accurate diagnosis will increase the number of patients that can benefit from the thrombolytic therapy, and will avoid some expensive and time-consuming exams, improving the sustainability and efficiency of our social and healthcare systems.
