Kolen’ko Group

Kolen’ko Group

The Kolen’ko Research Group at the INL is an international team of enthusiastic chemists, materials scientists, and engineers working together for R&D of unconventional nanomaterials.

Our mission

Developing creative and interdisciplinary routes to unconventional nanomaterials;

We explore nanochemistry for the development and characterization of advanced catalytic, adsorption, thermoelectric, and electronic materials, addressing key challenges in clean water, low-carbon economy, and clean energy technology. We use a diverse range of methods, combining creative chemistry with cutting-edge nanofabrication;

We aim at understanding fundamental aspects of the synthesized nanoscale objects, specifically finite-size, surface and confinement effects, chemical doping, as well as their formation, nucleation and crystal growth. As experimentalists, we are also interested in testing the limitations of computational prediction.

Research Lines:

  • Advanced nanomaterials for energy and catalysis focusing on reducing the dependence on critical raw materials (thermoelectric materials, electrocatalysis, water electrolysis, and CO2 conversion)
  • New materials and multi-functional coatings for sustainable solutions (water monitoring and treatment, air purification, smart cities, corrosion protection, raw materials, manufacturing of added-value goods)
