INL Council Member Elvira Fortunato wins Prémio Pessoa 2020

The scientist and member of the INL Council, Elvira Fortunato, was awarded the prestigious Prémio Pessoa Award, in its 2020 edition.

The Prémio Pessoa is awarded annually to personalities of Portuguese nationality who during a year, and following previous activity, have distinguished themselves as protagonists in scientific, artistic, or literary fields.

The jury justified the decision based on “a career of exceptional projection, inside and outside of Portugal” and for the “remarkable contribution to the Portuguese scientific, technological and innovation development”.

Elvira Fortunato is a full professor and vice-rector of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, specialized in Microelectronics and Optoelectronics, and the paper transistor, as well as the first fully-transparent screen, are innovations for which the newest Prémio Pessoa is known for.
