February 15, 2021

Paulo Freitas, Deputy Director-General, Paulo Ferreira, Group Leader – Atomic Structure Composition of Materials, Nuno Peres, Group Leader Electrodynamics of 2D Materials, Lifeng Liu, Group Leader of Nano Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion, and Joaquín Fernández-Rossier, Group Leader of Theory of Quantum Nanostructures, all from the INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology, have been included in a study conducted by the University of Stanford (United States), about the top 2% most cited researchers in the world in their scientific fields.

These five INL researchers were highlighted for the impact of their work throughout their whole career.

The list is presented in the article “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators”, about authors and citations, released in the Public Library of Science Biology (PLOS Biology).

This article identified top researchers in several disciplines all over the world, including 160,000 researchers from 149 countries in 22 scientific fields and 176 disciplines.

If we consider the list of scientists with the most impact in a single year (2019), beyond Nuno Peres and Paulo Ferreira, INL researchers Miguel Ângelo Cerqueira, Staff Researcher of the Food Procession and Nutrition Group, and Zongchang Wang, Group Leader of Atomic Manipulation for Quantum Nanotechnology are also mentioned in this study.
