INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, organized and hosted the Roving Seminar from the WIPO – World Intellectual Property Organization, in collaboration with the INPI – Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property, and OEPM – Spanish Patent and TradeMark Office.

The event took place May 21-22 2019 and gathered dozens of international Intellectual Property (IP) specialists and raised the awareness about why this matter is relevant, not only to act against infringement but above all to promote fair competition. During this conference, it was highlighted that patenting activity is increasing at a steady pace, in a well-documented trend, namely through the numerous IP databases implemented for exchange of information.

All presentations were connected by the principle that IP is key for scientific development as a vehicle for opening doors and not as much as a defensive instrument. In fact, it was even mentioned that IP must be used as a tool to generate revenue and be competitive in the global market since patents are a key asset for the corporate image of a company or an institution.
