Did you know that a car can run on water? Or that fruit and vegetables can be protected with a special biologic and edible coating? Or even that it is possible to encapsulate almost all sorts of liquids in small bubbles?

These were just three of the possible applications that a delegation of the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) introduced to hundreds of participants in 2019 European Researchers’ Night, at Centro Multimeios de Espinho, Portugal, last Friday, September 27th.

The audience, mainly composed of children and adolescents, defied INL scientists with lots of relevant questions and expressed genuine wonder as they saw “magic” happening before their eyes. INL also took experiments from the outreach project “Mission N.E.R.D”, explaining the science behind piercing a ballon with a toothpick without making it burst.

INL co-organized this event with Inova+, joining thousands of research organizations throughout Europe to make science popular and closer to everyone.
