Helena Macedo, a woman with a love for science and a scientist with a love for life
Meet Helena Macedo, Research Fellow in the Food Processing and Nutrition research group. She works in the field of in vitro intestinal models, and she focused her research on the development of in vitro models that simulate the gastrointestinal tract to evaluate the safety and efficiency of nanostructures for food applications. Meet Marta Prado, the first Postdoctoral Researcher to arrive at our facilities when INL was built
Marta Prado is the group leader of the Food Quality and Safety Research Group (FQ&S) at INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. Her research interests are the development of new, fast and reliable detection methodologies combining molecular biology and nano- and microfabrication technologies for different applications, particularly in the field of food safety and quality, but also for other biological samples. She is currently working on a new project FRONTSH1P that during the next four years will steer the Łódzkie region, Campania, Sterea Ellada, Norte, Friesland, and hopefully many others, towards a more circular and sustainable future. Ana Ribeiro, building a path in Nanosafety
Ana Ribeiro, a Staff Researcher of the Nanosafety Research Group, working on the development of 3D cell culture models and organ-on-a-chip systems for the safety assessment of nanomaterials. Her research is also focused on the influence of nanomaterials on cell communication and possible systemic consequences to humans. Read the full interview >>
Sara Resende, PhD Student in Biomedical Engineering at the Nanodevices Research Group
Meet Sara Resende. She joined INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in November 2021 as a PhD. Student in Biomedical Engineering for the Nanodevices Research Group. Her research is focused on developing novel sensors for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases using photonic crystals and molecularly imprinted polymers. Read the full interview >>
Filipa Peres, building a path on rationalising, explaining and predicting new phenomena
Meet Filipa Peres. She joined INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in January of 2021 as a PhD student co-hosted together with the University of Porto. She develops her research in the Quantum and Linear-Optical Computation theoretical research group and she focuses her research on developing new models for hybrid quantum-classical computation. Elvira Paz, Staff Researcher in the Spintronics Research Group
Elvira is a Staff Researcher in the Spintronics Research Group at INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. She obtained an MSc (2004) and a PhD (2010) in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid | UAM . Her current research focuses on magnetic sensors based on MTJs. Read the full interview >>
Ana C. Araújo unravelling the world of Micro and Nanofabrication
Meet Ana Araújo. She holds a highly technical course in Microbiology and a degree in Applied Biology from the University of Minho and started her career in 2011 as a Lab technician at the 3B’s Research Group (Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics) – University of Minho. Andrea Cruz, contributing to the first prototype of the LIFESAVER project
Andrea is a staff researcher of the Nanodevices group, working on the LIFESAVER research project funded by the European Commission under the Green Deal. The Lifesaver project involves fourteen European institutions, including universities, research centres and companies, working together, sharing knowledge, and driven by one goal. To reduce the rate of prenatal, neonatal and preterm deaths across Europe. Read the full interview >>
