Wrapping Up 2023: Events

As we bid farewell to 2023, it’s time to reflect on the significant events that shaped the year at INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. The INL team worked incredibly hard throughout 2023, bringing all our events to life.

In 2023, we opened our doors to almost 5000 people across 50 events.

Each event contributed uniquely to the vibrant diversity of experiences at INL, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of all these memorable moments. Here’s a comprehensive wrap-up of the key moments that defined the past 12 months.

FUNLAYERS twinning EU project kicks off with a workshop

The Functional Layered Materials for Advanced Applications – FUNLAYERS project consists of a twinning initiative aimed to propel INL’s research excellence in the field of layered materials whilst unfolding its tremendous potential applications for energy storage and spintronics, under the coordination of INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory together with the other ALBA-CELLS and Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics (MPG) teams. INL hosted the Horizon Europe BATT4EU Funding Opportunities event

INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in collaboration with ANI – Agência Nacional de Inovação hosted the Horizon Europe BATT4EU Funding Opportunities event and it was focused on presenting the BATT4EU partnership and funding opportunities in Horizon Europe for energy storage solutions. “International Day Of Light” celebrated at INL

INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory welcomed microscopy enthusiasts, researchers at all career stages, engineers, and university students, especially from science and engineering areas, to celebrate the International Day of Light (#IDL2023). The International Day of Light is a global initiative of UNESCO that provides an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and its role in reaching sustainable development goals related to education, equality, and peace. II Science Communication Meeting at INL

The INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory together with Antena Minho and in partnership with the Universidade do Minho and the European Researchers’ Night hosted the II Meeting ‘Science for All’ Antena Minho – INL. CTBio – Crossborder Biotech Cluster closing event at INL

The closing session of the CTBio – Cross-Border Biotechnology Cluster project took place at INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. All the partners – Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Cluster Tecnoloxico Empresarial das Ciencias da Vida (BIOGA), Consorcio de La Zona Franca de Vigo, Universidade do Minho (UMinho), and INL – Laboratorio Iberico Internacional de Nanotecnologia met and showcased all the impressive outcomes of the project. 1st International Conference of the Portuguese Association of Cellular Agriculture at INL

CellAgri Portugal – Portuguese Association for the Development of Cellular Agriculture together with INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory and in partnership with Municipio de Braga, Portugal Foods, Colab4Food and FLAD hosted the 1st International Conference of the Portuguese Association of Cellular Agriculture. Conference on Tools and Tests for Safer-by-Design Nanomaterials at INL

The Conference on Tools and Tests for Safer-by-Design Nanomaterials took place in Braga – Portugal, at INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. This conference was organised by the SBDToolbox Project team and addressed the most promising methods and tools to obtain the relevant data encompassing the specific properties that differentiate nanomaterials from chemicals. 2023 INL Open Day 

An exciting event where the Laboratory opened its doors to the public. With the participation of almost 900 visitors, full of enthusiasm and happiness, you were able to meet our researchers and visit our unique facilities, and ecosystem, through firsthand experience.

MFS2023 Conference at INL

The International Conference Microscopy at the Frontiers of Science gathered around 200 professionals at INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in Braga – Portugal, to explore the latest breakthroughs in electron microscopy and their impact on life sciences, material sciences and structural biology. UT Austin Portugal Conference 2023

NL hosted the 2023 edition of the UT Austin Portugal Program Annual Conference. The event – the largest knowledge-sharing and networking initiative of the Program – brought together at INL the UT Austin Portugal community and worldwide renowned experts. The conference fostered lively discussions and interactions that explored the successful journey of the past 16 years and culminated in an ideation exercise focused on the future. INL celebrates the Iberian Science Day with a joint initiative between Spain and Portugal

On November 17th, INL celebrated the Iberian Science Day: “An ode to the long years of scientific cooperation between Spain and Portugal”. Fostering a broad reflection on this relationship, the initiative was structured around two core moments: the introduction of the new INL Director General, Professor Clivia Sotomayor, and The European Chips Act event. The programme brought together high-level representatives of the European Commission and leading experts from Research and Technology Organisations to explore the forward position of both countries in the semiconductor industry and their potential to be a catalyst in the European Chips Act. INL contributes to the NGS Agenda

As part of Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), INL actively contributes to the NGS Agenda, engaging in various research initiatives spanning the entire battery value chain. This involves establishing a comprehensive battery ecosystem, encompassing the production of battery components and the exploration of novel materials and processes for battery manufacturing. As we turn the page to 2023, anticipate upcoming events, challenges, and opportunities shaping our days at INL in the coming year. We will continue to make strides in improving how we serve our community and how we continue to explore new interfaces and perform interdisciplinary research for the benefit of society.

Together, we will continue to travel in scale and experience science outside your world and inside INL.
